Compress Image to Target Size

Target file size
Common use cases
- Aadhaar / KYC upload — most portals want photos under 50 KB. Set target to 50 KB and drop your photo.
- Government forms — UPSC, SSC, railway forms often specify 20 KB–100 KB. Pick the exact target.
- Email attachments — Gmail warns above 25 MB but most recipients prefer under 1 MB per image.
- WhatsApp without quality loss — WhatsApp compresses on its own. Send under 200 KB to control what the recipient sees.
Questions
How does target-size compression work?
The tool uses a binary search — it tries quality 80, checks the file size, then adjusts up or down until the output is within 10% of your target. It runs entirely in your browser using the Canvas API.
What if the image can't reach the target size?
If even quality 1 produces a file larger than your target, the tool tells you — this happens with very large images or very small targets (e.g. a 20 MP photo compressed to 20 KB will look very bad). In that case, resize first then compress.
Does PNG compression work the same way?
PNG is lossless so quality settings don't apply the same way. For PNG targets, the tool converts to JPEG at the target quality. If you need to keep PNG format, resize the image dimensions instead.
Is there a file size limit?
No — only your device memory. A 20 MP photo is about 6 MB as a file, which is fine. Processing happens on your device so there's no upload limit.
