We built File Tools around a simple principle: the safest way to handle your sensitive files is to never touch them. Here is exactly how that works.
Browser-only processing
Files are processed entirely in your browser using JavaScript. No network request is ever made with your file data.
Zero upload
other platforms and Smallpdf upload files to their EU servers. We don't. Your file never leaves your device for any browser-based tool.
Nothing stored
We store no files, no metadata, no file names. The browser discards everything when you close the tab.
No account needed
No login means no profile, no data collection, no email marketing. Just tools.
Minimal cookies
We use only essential cookies for analytics. No advertising cookies, no cross-site tracking, no third-party ad networks.

⚙Technical architecture
Here is exactly what happens when you use a browser-based tool like compress image or merge PDF:
2. JavaScript processes the file → Canvas API / PDF-lib / Tesseract
3. Output generated → Blob URL created in your browser
4. You download the result → Direct from browser memory
→ At no point does any file data leave your device
The analytics system records only: tool name, event type, hashed IP, country and device type. No file names, no file content, no personal data.
⚠Exceptions — server-side tools
A small number of tools use server-side processing because they require capabilities not available in browsers:
- AES Encrypt / Decrypt — PHP-based, processes on our Hostinger server. Data is not stored after processing.
- SSL Certificate Checker — requires outbound network call to check remote certificates.
- CSP Builder, IP/CIDR Calculator — server-rendered PHP pages. No file or personal data is processed.
Every server-side tool is clearly noted on its page. We recommend not using these tools for highly sensitive content and using browser-based alternatives where possible.
